Our Pastor

Rev. Marshall Mayfield

Pastor Marshall and his lovely wife, Sandy, celebrated their 20 year anniversary, on August 16th, 2020, as the pastoral couple of Fairbanks First Church of the Nazarene! They both serve generously and humbly to see lives changed and souls brought into Christ’s kingdom. Their desire is to see the Fairbanks community experience revival, hearts turned to Christ, and the city transformed for the glory of God!

Our History in Fairbanks, AK

Fairbanks First Church of the Nazarene is the oldest Nazarene Church in the Alaska District. It was founded in 1939 by retiring missionaries from China who came to Alaska to farm. They started the church at their cabin on the homestead farm and later moved to town and bought a large lot downtown that was home to the church and parsonage from 1939 to 2004. In that time the church grew as well as the Alaska District church of the Nazarene, and the first Alaska District Assembly was held in the downtown location in 1950. There are currently 28 Nazarene churches, 2 compassionate ministry centers, and a Nazarene campground in Alaska.

Missional

Fairbanks First Church was a very Missional church before the term became popular. There were three other Nazarene churches planted from Fairbanks First Church; (proximal years) Totem Park (1954), North Pole (1975), and the Two Rivers church (1979). The Totem Park church was very instrumental in the founding of the Nome and Valdez churches as well.

Future Vision

In 2004 Fairbanks First merged with Totem Park at the current location at 1524 Westwood Way. With the new digital era, cell phones and phone navigation, we have began using our physical address of 1483 Porchet Way, Fairbanks, AK to help people be able to find us easier. We are still in the building at 1524 Westwood Way, both addresses go to the same building! The church continues to serve and minister to the community and welcomes you to come and be a part of the Fairbanks First Church family!
